Easter Family Fun
Birdhouse is back with a programme for Easter chicks…
Grimsby-based arts organisation Birdhouse is delighted to announce its forthcoming children’s Easter programme, thanks to funding from Arts Council England and Freshney Place Shopping Centre.
During the up-coming Easter holidays Birdhouse will present three touring UK shows at local venues, as well as craft workshops.
First on the programme will be Alice in Wonderland by Pendle Theatre Company – being performed at a free event in Freshney Place on Saturday 12 April.
Suitable for children up to the age of eight, this musical theatre show will be hosted at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm and lasts around 20 minutes.
Amanda Austin, Freshney Place Shopping Director commented; ‘We are thrilled to have Birdhouse back in the centre to host free family fun during the holidays.
The interactive entertainment will be a great treat for the children and we welcome everyone along to celebrate Easter with us at Freshney Place.’
Children will also be able to make Easter bunnies to take home.
Then the following week, Sea Legs Puppet Theatre – a hit with Birdhouse audiences – will return to the area to present The Ugly Duckling at Scartho Children’s Centre and Highgate Children’s Centre on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 April respectively.
There will be two shows each day, at 11am and 2pm and tickets are £4 for children and £3 for adults.
During The Ugly Duckling, families are invited to meet a host of colourful characters as they run the troubled duckling out of the farmyard into a cold, lonely world.
But not to worry, a grand musical finale to melt even the coldest of hearts, is in store – it’s a happy ending for the humble hero.
Set on the banks of a magical river, brilliant storytelling, fantastic puppets and a delightful new musical score, make this a must see show for little ones and their families.
Children will also have the opportunity to ‘meet the puppets’ at the end of show.
Then, on Thursday 17 April, Sea-Legs stay to present their brand new show, The Musicians of Bremen, at Whitgift Film Theatre.
There will be two shows of this, at 11am and 2pm and tickets are £5 children and £4 adults.
Audiences will see a team of unwanted toys escape and run away to Bremen Town to try their luck as musicians.
It will be the greatest adventure of their lives, in this classic fairy-tale of friendship and courage.
Again this show is told with magical puppets, an innovative set and an original sound-track.
Charlotte Bowen, Birdhouse director said: “We’re absolutely delighted that we’re able to bring another programme of touring shows to North East Lincolnshire.
“As well as the Easter programme there will be more coming in May, August, October and December, so local families have a lot to look forward to!”
Bookings can be made at Cleethorpes Tourist Information Centre, at Cleethorpes Library (01472 323111) or on-line at www.birdhousetheatre.co.uk where there is also further information about the programme.
